The Challenge
Mott Haven Academy Charter School ("Haven Academy") was founded to meet the needs of students involved with the child welfare system. The school was looking for a way to better use technology to cultivate an environment of communication with parents and the community.
The Solution
Haven Academy deployed BlackBerry® smartphones to teachers and administrators, using them to keep in touch with parents, school administrators and other teachers. Teachers use BlackBerry® Messenger to keep up with administrative updates each morning and are able to call parents immediately when dealing with behavioral issues or emergency situations. Parents are also able to reach teachers directly, instead of a more traditional process of going through the school’s office first.
