Content Transfer

BlackBerry Content Transfer moves data that's saved on your previous device to your new BlackBerry device powered by Android. You can move pictures, videos, contacts, and more. BlackBerry Content Transfer is compatible with Android, iOS, BlackBerry 10, and BlackBerry 7.

To start the process now click on your previous smartphone model from the list below. Please ensure you have updated to the most current version of the application before starting the process. 

BlackBerry 10 (10.2.1 or later)

Start the process on your new device

You can transfer the following types of data that are saved in the storage space on your previous BlackBerry 10 device:

  • Contacts
  • Calendar events
  • Pictures (non-DRM)
  • Videos (non-DRM)
  • Music
  • Text messages (SMS) (Max of 3500 messages)
  • Notes and tasks from BlackBerry Remember
  • Email accounts: BlackBerry Content Transfer detects the accounts on your previous device and prompts you to enter the passwords for each account on your new device.
  • Documents

Note: DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a technology that restricts the use of copyrighted material on different types ofdevices. Some web-based music and video stores use DRM technology to prevent you from playing purchased content onother types of devices.

Before you can transfer your data, the BlackBerry Content Transfer app must be installed on both your BlackBerry 10 device and your BlackBerry device powered by Android™.

Note: Local content stored in the Device-Personal/downloads folder will not be transferred. Any media or documents in the Device-Personal/downloads folder must be moved to the Device-Personal/music or Device-Personal/documents folders before starting the content transfer process.

  1. When prompted, select This is my new device.
  2. Then select Transfer your content using Google Drive™
  3. Tap Next to transfer your content using Google Drive™.
  4. Choose your Google™ account and then tap OK.
  5. If you are not already signed in, sign in with your Google™ account.

Transfer content Using Google Drive™

  1. On your previous device, in BlackBerry Content Transfer, tap Next.
  2. Tap Next.
  3. Log in to your Google™ account or create a new Google™ account.
  4. Tap Allow.
  5. Select the type of data that you want to transfer to your new device, and then tap Start.
  6. To protect your data, enter a password on the Create a password screen. Enter the password again on the Confirm Password screen, and then tap Next.
    Your device begins transferring your data to Google Drive™.
  7. When the transfer to Google Drive™ is complete, on your new device, in BlackBerry Content Transfer, enter the data protection password that you created in step 6, and tap Next to continue the transfer process.
  8. If prompted, enter the passwords for your email accounts.

After you finish:

  • After your data is transferred to your new device, you can delete your device data from Google Drive™. Tap Remove Transfer files.
  • After the transfer is complete, tap View Transfer Details to confirm that your data was transferred. Tap Done when you are finished reviewing.
BlackBerry 7

Start the process on your new device

You can transfer the following types of data that are saved in the storage space on your BlackBerry 7 device:

  • Contacts
  • Calendar events
  • Pictures
  • Videos (non-DRM)
  • Music (non-DRM)
  • Tasks
  • Notes
  • Documents
  • Email accounts: BlackBerry Content Transfer detects the accounts on your previous device and prompts you to enter the passwords for each account on your new device.

Alternatively the Content Transfer app is available via App World. Using your smartphone you can search for the app in App World.

Transfer data using Wi-Fi

Before you begin: To transfer data using Wi-Fi, both your previous device and your new device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The Wi-Fi network should be a private network, such as your home Wi-Fi network. Ensure there is no media card in the device to enable the Wi-Fi transfer mode.

  1. On your new device, open the BlackBerry Content Transfer and then tap This is my new device or Next > Use another method.
  2. On your previous device, open the BlackBerry Content Transfer app, and then tap Next > Use another method.
  3. On your previous device, in the list, tap your new device (your new device might be the only device in the list).
  4. On your previous device, select the type of data that you want to transfer to your new device, and then tap Start.
  5. On your previous device, on the Create password screen, enter a password to protect your data. Enter the password again, and then tap Next.
  6. On your new device, enter the password that you created in step 5.

Depending on the amount of data on your previous device and the speed of your Wi-Fi network, the transfer can take several hours. Do not disconnect either device from the Wi-Fi network until the transfer is complete.

After you finish:

  • After the transfer is complete, tap View Transfer Details to confirm that your data was transferred. Tap Done when you are finished reviewing.

Android (4.0 or later)

Start the process on your new device

You can transfer the following types of data that are saved in the storage space on your Android device:

  • Contacts
  • Calendar events
  • Pictures (non-DRM)
  • Videos (non-DRM)
  • Music
  • Text messages (SMS) (Max of 3500 messages)
  • Documents
  • Email accounts: BlackBerry Content Transfer detects the accounts on your previous device and prompts you to enter the passwords for each account on your new device.

Note: Documents will be transferred only if you are switching from a device running Android™ version 4.4 or later.

  1. When prompted, select This is my new device.
  2. Then select transfer your content using Google Drive™
  3. Tap Next to transfer your content using Google Drive™.
  4. Choose your Google™ account and then tap OK.
  5. If you are not already signed in, sign in with your Google™ account.

Using Google Drive™

  1. On your previous device, in BlackBerry Content Transfer, tap Next.
  2. Tap Next.
  3. Log in to your Google™ account or create a new Google™ account.
  4. Tap Allow.
  5. Select the type of data that you want to transfer to your new device, and then tap Start.
  6. To protect your data, enter a password on the Create a password screen. Enter the password again on the Confirm Password screen, and then tap Next.
    Your device begins transferring your data to Google Drive™.
  7. When the transfer to Google Drive™ is complete, on your new device, in BlackBerry Content Transfer, enter the data protection password that you created in step 6, and tap Next to continue the transfer process.

iOS (7.0 or later)

Start the process on your new device

You can transfer the following types of data that are saved in the storage space on your previous iOS device:

  • Contacts
  • Calendar entries
  • Pictures and videos that you took with the iPhone camera (in other words, pictures and videos that are in the Camera Roll)
  1. When prompted, select This is my new device.
  2. Then select transfer your content using Google Drive™
  3. Tap Next to transfer your content using Google Drive™.
  4. Choose your Google™ account and then tap OK.
  5. If you are not already signed in, sign in with your Google™ account.

Using Google Drive™

  1. On your previous device, in BlackBerry Content Transfer, tap Next.
  2. Tap Next.
  3. Log in to your Google™ account or create a new Google™ account.
  4. Tap Allow.
  5. Select the type of data that you want to transfer to your new device, and then tap Start.

Note: pressing the Home button during a transfer will cancel the transfer

After you finish:

  • After your data is transferred to your new device, you can delete your device data from Google Drive™. Tap Remove Transfer files.
  • After the transfer is complete, tap View Transfer Details to confirm that your data was transferred. Tap Done when you are finished reviewing.
